My favorite thing to do in the winter, and especially during November-December is to travel and visit a magical Christmas destination!
I just love the beautiful decorated cities, festive Christmas markets, and magical snowy escapes.
The world is filled with unique destinations that capture the festive Christmas spirit and makes your trip unforgettable!
In this blog post, I am going to share with you the 25 best Christmas travel destinations that will make Christmas truly magical for you!

Which country has the best Christmas experience?
Answering a solid answer of “which country is best to travel during Christmas” can be quite tricky to give, because it really depends on the type of experience you are seeking.
However, several countries consistently ranked at the top these past few years. In 2024, the top visited Christmas destination was London, UK according to reports online. But in general, the UK and Germany were top choices.
London is known for a magical Christmas experience, decorated with beautiful lights and decorations, amazing Christmas markets (btw, I know that in 2025 they are opening a festive Christmas market in Buckingham Palace for the first time!), and just festive Christmas vibes.
On the other hand, Germany is known for the birthplace of Christmas markets, and there are some magical fairytale towns like Nuremberg and Dresden that offer a magical Christmas experience with festive activities that attract millions of visitors every year.
Popular Christmas Destinations:
1. New York City, USA

New York City is one of my favorite Christmas destinations, and it’s a truly iconic Christmas destination to experience Christmas straight out of a movie!
From the AMAZING Christmas decorations and activities like the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, to the ice rink in Bryant Park, and the iconic and magical Christmas decorations that are being spread around the city and make the city look like a truly winter wonderland.
New York is the ultimate Christmas destination to enjoy and iconic American Christmas experience!
2. London, UK

As I said earlier, London is one of the top Christmas destinations, and was the most visited Christmas destination in 2024. And I can totally understand why!
London is one of the prettiest cities during the Christmas season!
You can expect beautiful lights and decorations around the city, including in Oxford Street and in Regent Street, Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland which is a must-visit Christmas experience for must-visit rides, amazing markets, and festive food.
You can also ice skate at Somerset House, and as I said – in Christmas 2025 you can enjoy a beautiful Christmas market outside of the Buckingham Palace!
3. Paris, France
Paris is a beautiful Christmas destination to visit, and with the magical decorations around the city, you’ll truly feel like your in a magical Christmas movie.
The famous Champs-Elysees is beautifully decorated with Christmas lights and decorations, there are festive Christmas markets around the city, and you can really enjoy this amazing holiday in one of the prettiest and most romantic cities in the world!
4. Vienna, Austria

Vienna is one of the best Christmas travel destinations travelers love visiting! Vienna is known for famous Christmas markets, iconic Christmas decorations, and just makes an ultimate Christmas destination to visit.
With the beautiful architecture of the city, combined with the beautiful Christmas decorations, you’ll just feel like you are living in a fairytale.
So basically, Vienna delivers a truly magical Christmas atmosphere steeped in history and culture.
5. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities in the world, and in Christmas, it’s even prettier!
The city is beautifully decorated with iconic decorations, magical lights, complimented with festive Christmas markets and fun ice rinks that add to the festive spirit.
With its unique mix of culture, charm, and coziness, Amsterdam is a delightful Christmas escape!
6. Copenhagen, Denmark
I am expected to visit Copenhagen this Christmas, and I’m so excited!
It is known as a charming Christmas destination, with beautiful Christmas decorations, Christmas markets, as well as the famous Tivoli Gardens that transforms into a magical winter wonderland filled with fun rides, beautiful lights, and holiday stalls.
The city’s streets are adorned with festive decorations, and traditional Danish treats like gløgg (mulled wine) and æbleskiver (pancake balls) which definitely adds to the Christmas vibe 😉
Copenhagen offers a fairytale-like Christmas experience with a Scandinavian twist!
7. Prague, Czech Republic

Prague in general feels like a living fairytale, so during Christmas, you LITERARLY feel like you are in a fairytale!
With the beautiful fairytale looking architecture of the city, complimented with magical Christmas decorations, Prague just feels like the ultimate magical Christmas destination.
The Old Town Square hosts the famous Christmas market, that if you’re lucky and get some snow during your visit, it will feel even more magical!

Reykjavik in Iceland offers a unique Christmas experience, combined with the breathtaking nature Iceland has to offer, you’ll enjoy a once in a lifetime Christmas trip!
With the beautiful snowy landscapes, and the chance to spot the Northern Lights, Iceland is a beautiful destination to visit!

In Tokyo, you can expect beautiful Christmas lights all around the city, and especially in Shibuya and Shinjuku which light up with amazing lights and decorations.
Also, you can enjoy traditional Christmas markets, such as the one in Roppongi Hills, which offers German-inspired food and decorations, while enjoying local holiday desserts like strawberry shortcake.

One of those places is Solvang, a beautiful Danish-inspired town in California, located around 3-hours drive from Los Angeles.
It’s known as “California’s Little Denmark”, so if you can’t visit Copenhagen this year, Solvang is a great option for US citizens 😉
Anyways, Solvang hosts joyful Christmas experiences, with a month-long celebration filled with festive parades, magical light shows, and fun Christmas markets.
Christmas in Solvang is perfect for anyone looking for a European-style Christmas without leaving the US!
18. Vail, Colorado, USA

Moving on to the magical town of Vail, which is a totally underrated Christmas destination for those who love a classy snowy escape!
Located in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, and looks like a magical winter wonderland, you really can’t go wrong with a fun Christmas experience in Vail.
This magical town offers snow-covered chalets, beautiful Christmas lights, combined with holiday festivities which includes fun parades, caroling, and cozy vibes.
Vail is mainly known as a world-class skiing destination, so you can definitely combine your magical Christmas getaway with a fun skiing experience if there’s enough snow while you visit.

19. Salzburg, Austria

Austria is one of the prettiest countries in Europe in my opinion, and Salzburg is one of the prettiest destinations Austria has to offer, and it turns into an even more magical place during Christmas.
Salzburg’s Christmas markets offer traditional Austrian crafts, mulled wine, and roasted chestnuts, combined with the beautiful Christmas decorations and magical lights, you really can’t go wrong with a winter wonderland escape like Salzburg!
Snow often dusts the rooftops and surrounding mountains, making horse-drawn sleigh rides and strolls through the historic old town feel like stepping into a holiday postcard.
20. Zermatt, Switzerland

Zermatt is a dream destination for a snowy Christmas escape.
What makes this place even more dreamier, is that it is a car-free alpine village, that gets blanketed in snow during winter, making it perfect for skiing, snowboarding, or just for snow lovers who want to enjoy the cold weather.

Finland is a long time dream destination of mine, and is considered the official hometown of Santa Claus!
Although it is a dream destination, Rovaniemi is a pretty underrated Christmas destination compare to big European cities, probably because it’s less reachable like Paris or London in my opinion.
While visiting Rovaniemi you can enjoy a truly snowy escape, from meeting Santa, crossing the Arctic Circle, experiencing reindeer sleigh rides or husky adventures.
And of course – you can’t (and won’t) miss out on chasing beautiful Northern Lights that are a once in a lifetime experience!
22. Megève, France
Megève is located in the French Alps, and makes a magical alpine village that comes alive with Christmas magic and festive vibes with a snowy weather.
Megève is known for its luxury ski resorts, but the town is a beautiful Christmas destination in general, offering horse-drawn carriage rides, festive Christmas markets, and beautiful Christmas lights and decorations around this beautiful town.

Going back to the US, and moving on to Washington, and more specifically – Leavenworth.
Leavenworth is a beautiful village in Washington State that transforms into a winter wonderland during the Christmas season.
Surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains, and with the town being lit with millions of holiday lights, you’ll feel like in a magical escape.
The town hosts festive events like the Village of Lights and Christmas caroling. With the alpine-style architecture of the city, the cozy shops and cafes, the sleigh rides – you can feel a truly magical small-town Christmas experience.

Moving on to Canada – Quebec City is one of North America’s most magical snowy Christmas destinations!
